Toshkent

is the capital city of Uzbekistan with a population of over 2.7 million the largest urban center. It is the political, economic, cultural, and transportation hub of the country. It is also one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, with a history going back over 2,000 years. It was a major Silk Road stop and later became a key city during the Russian Empire and Soviet Union. Since Uzbekistan's independence in 1991, Toshkent has developed into a modern metropolis with a blend of Islamic, Soviet-era, and contemporary architecture. The daily walk and the excellent and very competitive taxi service brought us to:

·       Khazrati Imam Complex – A spiritual center with mosques, madrasahs, and the world-famous Uthman Quran - the oldest Quran in the world.

·       Chorsu Bazaar – A colorful, historic market under a giant blue dome, full of local food, spices, and crafts.

·       Amir Timur Square – A central city landmark with a statue of Timur and surrounding museums and buildings.

·       Tashkent Metro – The first subway in Central Asia, famous for its beautifully decorated stations.

·       Tashkent Tower – One of the tallest towers in Central Asia, offering panoramic views of the city.
